What I Learned from 6 Years Beside a Future Yankee

I played for six years on the same team as Anthony Volpe—now the shortstop for the New York Yankees. We were the same age, similar style, same grind. And while his talent was clear, what stood out even more was his consistency.
Volpe didn’t chase spotlight. He didn’t cut corners. He showed up early, stayed late, and handled both success and failure the same way: with focus and humility.
Playing next to him wasn’t intimidating—it was inspiring. It showed me what elite looks like when no one’s watching.
It also made me hold myself to a higher standard. Not because I wanted to be him, but because I saw what it took to make it—and how many of those traits have nothing to do with natural talent.
Now, as a coach, I try to pass that forward. Whether your goal is college ball, pro ball, or just becoming the best version of yourself—I’ll help you get there with the same values I learned standing beside one of the best.
